Jacksonville Airport Terminal

Introduction & Historical Background

Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is the main gateway to Northeast Florida, serving millions of passengers annually. Opened in 1968 to replace the older Imeson Field, JAX was designed to accommodate the city’s growing air traffic needs and has since evolved into a modern, user-friendly airport. Over the decades, the terminal has undergone several expansions and renovations, ensuring it remains efficient, comfortable, and equipped with the latest amenities.

Terminal Layout & Description

JAX features a single, contemporary terminal building, open 24/7, organized across two main levels and two concourses: Concourse A and Concourse C. The terminal is designed for easy navigation, with clear signage and accessible pathways, making it ideal for families, business travelers, and those with reduced mobility.

Levels & Zones

Level 1:
This is the arrivals and baggage claim area, split into north and south sides. Here you’ll find information booths, the lost & found office, the USO lounge for military personnel, and direct access to ground transportation (taxis, shuttles, buses, and car rentals).
Tip: If you lose an item, head straight to the Lost & Found office on this level for prompt assistance.

Level 2:
The upper level houses ticketing, check-in counters, and the main security checkpoint. Once through security, travelers can access both concourses:

  • Concourse A: Gates A1–A10 (right side)
  • Concourse C: Gates C1–C10 (left side)
Both concourses are connected by a spacious central courtyard.

The central courtyard is a great spot to relax, enjoy local art exhibits, or grab a last-minute gift.

Shops, Restaurants, and Lounges

The terminal offers a wide variety of retail and dining options, from national chains to local favorites. You’ll find bookstores, gift shops, duty-free outlets, and specialty boutiques. Dining choices range from quick snacks and coffee shops to sit-down restaurants and bars.
